AMBULIUS

ΑΜΒΟΥΛΙΟΣ

And Ambulia, Ambulii (Amboulia, Amboulioi), surnames under which the Spartans worshipped Zeus Athena, and the Dioscuri. (Paus. iii. 13. § 4.) The meaning of the name is uncertain, but it has been supposed to be derived from amballô, and to designate those divinities as the delayers of death.
